Low Vision Clinic (Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped)
The Low Vision Clinic (LVC) is a specialised centre established to offer people with different levels of vision impairment the benefits of low vision devices to maximise one’s remaining vision whenever possible. The clinic provides comprehensive clinical assessment and advisory services conducted by a team of qualified Ophthalmologists and Optometrists.
SNEC Low Vision Service
At the SNEC Low Vision Service, our optometrists will provide a comprehensive low vision evaluation which may include refraction, contrast sensitivity test, near vision test, and prescribe optical aids and glasses. They will also recommend and demonstrate use of suitable optical aids and accessibility functions on AT devices; provide counselling on adaptive strategies to cope with eye condition; and offer referrals to other rehabilitation services as required. These may include orientation and mobility training, accessibility and AT devices training, activities of daily living training, and occupational therapy services.
SG Enable
SG Enable enables persons with disabilities to live, learn, work and play in an inclusive society. They create equitable opportunities for persons with disabilities through thought leadership, sustainable social innovation and impactful partnership. Set up by the Ministry of Social and Family Development in 2013, SG Enable is a registered charity and an Institution of a Public Character.
Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd (DGS)
Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd (GDS) is a social service organisation formed in 2006 that aims to enhance the quality of life and independence for the blind and vision-impaired community in Singapore through various programmes and services. To date, GDS has successfully trained and paired 11 guide dog teams, of which 6 are currently active. A steadily increasing number of potential clients have also joined their waiting list.
Tan Tock Seng Hospital – Low Vision Rehabilitation Service
Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Low Vision Rehabilitation Service aims to help people with low vision to efficiently use their remaining vision and/or implement compensatory strategies in order to continue participating in daily activities and live productive and independent lives.
Macular Degeneration Society Singapore
The Macular Degeneration Society (MDS) is a non-profit organisation that was established in 2007 to offer support for macular degeneration patients and build awareness of this eye disease in Singapore. In addition to regular support group sessions for macular degeneration patients, MDS also organises forums to share the latest medical developments and breakthroughs with members and the public.
iC2 PrepHouse Limited
The iC2 PrepHouse is a support service for the visually impaired in Singapore that aims to bridge the gap between paediatric and adult support groups, and to engage the low vision clinics affiliated to SNEC and other Ophthalmology Departments to ensure a smooth referral process. It addresses the need for customised structured programmes for both children with low vision and older patients who lose variable degrees of vision at various stages of their lives.
